The Airport and Environment


The biggest airport and environment threat that airports pose are airport water waste and water run offs. They have polluted water ways causing pollution in the water and also toxic chemicals that damage soils and also wildlife that drink from the waterways such as fish and other animals (Voskaki, 2015). For example, "Airport water run-offs are considered a major source of pollution as they are characterised by high level of chemicals and toxic substances, resulting from aircraft and airfield de-icing and anti-icing, fuel spillages, firefighting foam, chemicals and oils from aircraft and vehicle maintenance, detergents used in aircraft and vehicle cleaning etc" (Voskaki, 2015).

Additionally, such water waste has cause plenty of water pollution which further increases the problems of air pollutions as well. Water waste over the years has become more of a huge deal as water has become more  a necessity for more airports to grow (Voskaki, 2015). For instance,"This is surprisingly considering that global warming results in alteration in the hydrological cycle that could result in changes in the precipitation patterns and run-offs that could affect water availability and demand. And it is a fact that many areas in Europe already have to deal with severe water stress. Consequently, water availability could become a major barrier for growth for airports located in hot destinations that are affected by climate changes" (Voskaki, 2015).

Implementations and programs have been put in place to prevent water runoff and increased water waste (Voskaki, 2015). “The most common applied measures include wastewater and sewage plants, drainage systems, surface and ground water quality monitoring, sampling at discharge points, oil, hydrocarbon and grease separator systems, use of biologically degraded de-icing and anti-icing agents etc” (Voskaki, 2015).

 Weather Conditions           The greatest weather condition to me in aviation is snow that can cause the most severe weather conditions. Snow can prevent pilots from seeing visually, causing components on the aircraft to not wirk and also prevent aircraft from even taking off and  (Arbogast, 2015).  example, " Snow and blowing snow can greatly affect aircraft on the ground, as well as during ascent and descent. When visibility is significantly reduced, as a result of snow activity, aircraft acceptance rates are often reduced. This causes operational delays, and at times aircraft may need to divert to alternate airfields. Significant snow accumulation can impact airport operations, and runways may close for plowing. Human Factors in Aviation

 Human Factors in Aviation Human factors are those that occur with humans that happen in everyone's daily lives not necessarily concerning aviation at all. For example, distractions, fatigue, stress, etc (Shorrock,2017).      During Aircraft servicing on an EA-18G aircraft, part of servicing the aircraft is to refuel it. During this evolution of refueling this aircraft, miscommunication can play a huge role in this aircraft not being able to perform its mission, and also the strong possibility of defueling causing rework (FAA,2016). The communication part of human factors is huge as maintenance control is communicating with the ground crew on how much fuel needs to be given to the aircraft, and if it should be fueled internally or externally (FAA,2016).
